Quick answer
To use a lottery ticket in Probably Stolen, right-click the ticket, choose Read, then click and hold to scratch it. Take the completed ticket to the Commissary at the end of the day and use the interaction shown there. If a prompt looks different, update the game before trying again.
Step 1: open the ticket
Find the ticket in your inventory and right-click it. Choose Read from the available actions. This opens the ticket interaction before you try to scratch it.
If Read does not appear, confirm that you selected the ticket itself and that the game is fully updated. No separate keyboard shortcut or alternate inventory route is currently known for this step.
Step 2: hold to scratch
After reading the ticket, click and hold the mouse button over the scratch area. Keep the button held until the interaction reveals the result instead of repeatedly tapping it. Release after the result appears.
The current player report is based on mouse input. Native controller and touch instructions have not been confirmed, so follow the input prompt shown by your current build if you are using another device.
Step 3: redeem at the Commissary
Take the completed ticket to the Commissary at the end of the day. Check the available interaction there and follow the prompt shown in game.
The exact prize, payout, odds, and whether every ticket wins are not confirmed. Do not plan your shop economy around a fixed reward until you have seen the result in your own Playtest build.
If the ticket will not scratch
First update the Playtest and try the ticket again. Then check whether you are playing in fullscreen on a display that is not 16:9. Official Playtest Patch 48.3.12, released August 8, 2026, fixed a bug that prevented Scratcher tickets from being scratched under that display condition.
If the game is updated but the problem remains, switch between fullscreen and windowed display, retry the ticket, and note your resolution and game version. The patch confirms one display-related cause, but it does not mean every ticket problem has the same cause.
Does Apprentice Mode change the steps?
Player comments about Apprentice Mode are inconsistent. There is no confirmed separate ticket procedure for that mode. Use the same Read, hold-to-scratch, and Commissary flow unless the game displays a different action.
If the prompt changes, record the mode and build number before reporting the problem. That makes it easier to distinguish a mode difference from an input or display bug.
Controller and Steam Deck notes
Probably Stolen does not currently have confirmed native Steam Deck support. A player-reported Deck workaround uses keyboard-and-mouse emulation, which may allow the trackpad to act as a mouse. That workaround is not the same as official controller support.
For a ticket, the important requirement is being able to right-click, choose Read, and perform a click-and-hold action. Check the separate Steam Deck guide before relying on the ticket interaction on handheld hardware.
